1936 Ontario Commercial Plate - RARE TYPE - LOCKING TAB

Offered is the rare 1936 Ontario commercial license plate with the locking tab set up. The plate is in overall nice condition but sadly the '1936' tab is missing.
A bit of background - During the 1930s the province of Ontario was looking into producing a multi-year license plate. The experimental 'locking tab' design was tried out on the rear of commercial vehicles for the year 1936. The idea was at the end of year a stamped metal tab with the year 1936 would slide out of the side plate and replaced with a new tab for 1937. Rust, damage in service and the development of windshield decals made the locking tab idea impractical and it dropped after the year was up.
As a result, these plates are extremely difficult to find in decent original shape.
