Description
A wonderful quality free-blown glass decanter of slender ovoid form, the sides decorated with 'slice-cut' decoration; fitted with the original mushroom stopper; pontil mark to base; English or Irish, circa 1790 - 1820.This is a fabulous quality decanter which would be ideal for wine or spirits. The decoration is very skillfully done using a grinding wheel to cut shallow 'slices' out of the glass producing this very pleasing effect which additionally gives the decanter a slender and aesthetically pleasing appearance (see the 12 photographs provided in the accompanying sequence).
The decanter is 10 1/8 inches tall with the stopper in place. Having the original stopper is always a bonus with early decanters as they fit tightly in place, unlike replacement ones - this means that the wine inside will stay in better condition for longer. There is no damage: no chips, no cracks and no restoration. There is some water spotting stains on the interior sides which could be removed.
This is a fantastic quality decanter which we are selling WITHOUT RESERVE!
