    Description

Presented is an old pair of English sterling silver tongs made by John Le Gallais of London in 1850. The arms are in a traditional Fiddle pattern form and are finely hand engraved with a zig-zag border of design. The top of the tongs are engraved with a monogram of the initials LFRL in a sinuous script.
The tongs are marked with the leopard’s head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of Queen Victoria’s head, a date letter P for the year 1850 and a maker’s mark for John Le Gallais.
This pair is in fabulous overall condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The tongs measure 5 3/4 inches long and weigh 48.7 grams or 1.7 ounces.
