Charming Antique English Handmade Victorian Sterling Silver Watch Fob Medal - Circa 1900 - No MonogramsOffering here a lovely antique handmade English sterling silver watch fob - pendant - charm - medal.
This piece has not been researched but likely dates to circa 1900 (1890 - 1910 ). The design is very Victorian and this is a charming fob with slight imperfections that highlight it's handmade origins.
It's unusual with the full English hallmarks on the front of the fob. One the hallmarks a lion passant indicating that's it's made of sterling.
Fobs like this one were originally used as decorations on a gentleman's watch chain and later went on to become popular as award medals and are highly sought after by a great number of collectors today.
The later resurgence in popularity as medals is why you'll see a lot of these were engraved many years later than the hallmark indicates that they were made.
This one has not been monogrammed.
This is a light and THIN ( and a bit worn ) fob and the weight is approximately 4.7 grams.
It's approximately 1 1/4" long including the bail but not the jump ring on top. It's 1 1/4" at the widest point.
It's in good vs. excellent condition with no issues other than normal to slightly heavy signs of wear and use which includes small surface scratches to the silver.
We never clean or polish our old silver jewelry as most collectors prefer an undisturbed patina and this piece is a bit dirty and dark in spots.
