For sale is this beautifully decorated Sterling Silver Anointing Spoon.
The Spoon was made by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd
and is in very, very good condition.
This is a replica spoon of the anointing spoon which is part of the coronation regalia.
The original spoon is made of gold and dates back to the 13th century.
In the coronation ceremony Holy oil is poured from the Ampulla, which is in the form of a gold eagle, into the spoon.
The spoon is then applied by the officiating Bishop or Archbishop to the new sovereigns head, breast and palms.
Hallmarks: Lion, Sword erect between three wheat-sheaves, Letter f
Length: 5 7/8" Total
Bowl: 1 7/8” Long by 1 1/4” Wide
Weight: 23 grams
I have NOT polished this and leave that up the new owner since they may want to preserve any patina
