    Description

Pair of Moccasins made for a young child. Either Tlingit or Eskimo in origin. Leather with cotton print fabric liner. Beading on red felt or flannel over soft hide. Unsure of exact circa but likely at least pre 1935 (the upper limit of this category) and possibly decades earlier than that. A couple who resided on the California/Oregon border collected older Native American items and in 1959 loaned their collection, including these moccasins, to a local museum. The collectors had passed in the 1970s.  I recently purchased several of their pieces from a nearby estate.
    Approximate measurements: Length:  5 1/2" Width: 2 3/4"
CONDITION: please study photos. A leather strap is attached with a couple hand stitches allowing for a hanging display. Only remnants of soft fur remain to the collar trim. Some distress to stiff skin of collar. Some distress to red felt. Some stitch loss. Please study all photos as part of description and ask questions if you have any. Thank you.
