Description
Victorian Georgian sterling silver covered serving bowl. Made by Benjamin Smith in London in 1841. Shaped rectangle with concave sides and ends, c-scroll corners, and gadrooned rim. Cover raised with gadrooned border. Cast leaf-mounted branch handle; twist locks for converting cover to second serving bowl. A fine example of the enduring popularity of 18th-century design. Fully functional for another couple centuries of dinner parties. Both bowl and cover fully marked including Victorian duty stamp, and no. 4.
