Vintave 60s Mexican Dolls, hand painted on oil cloth.3 women and 2 men
All are wearing traditional outfits from Mexico and huaraches (sandals)
From Left to right in picture #1:
1. Man, serape and straw hat, blue checked shirt
2. Man, serape, straw hat, white belted outfit with red scarf. He is carrying a basket of fruit.
3. Woman, carrying a baby, polka dot blue skirt and Mexican peasant white blouse. Baby is wrapped in a pink blanket which is being used to hold the baby to mama.
4. Woman, wearing fancier clothing. White lace edged bonnet. with lace trimmed sleeves and bottom of her dress. Ribbon belt and hair is in braids.
5. Woman, wearing a decorated fancy skirt, lace edged, hat with fruit (broken, see picture). She is also wearing a scarf over her braided hair.
These dolls are in relatively good shape, their clothes do have some yellowing and could be refreshed, I didn't do it as it is not an area of expertise for me and I didn't want to do damage. The women doll have issues with their hair, none the lady with the baby has hair that is coming loose from its style and the other women have braids that could use braids to be redone. None of the dolls have any missing hair, clothes (pinned to bodies with straight pins, shoes.
It is my understanding that these were received by someone in the 60's but I have no way of verifying that and I do not know if that is when they were made, or just when they were received. The dolls are well made with many extra details, one example is in picture number 12, all of the women have undergarments and the underskirts all have lace crocheted trim. They are well made and a lovely example of Mexican Folk Art.
