    Description

This 1940s Benjamin "vapor-tight light fixture has it all: a heavy-duty two-part cast-iron housing or "hood," a big 18"-dia. porcelain enameled shade (white, top and bottom), and a BIG 8" round glass globe (see photo showing this globe alongside a 12.-oz can for size comparison). A real stunner that simply oozes the aesthetic of 1940s industrial America. This listing begins with 2 vintage original lighting fixtures that are identical save for small variations in patina, priced individually. Both fixtures are in remarkable condition (see specifics under the condition description).
Each fixture was completely rewired, with a solid ground wire added to comply with today's electrical standards. Each light is outfitted with a swiveling ceiling hanger and down pipe for easy installation.
The metal manufacturers' tag on each fixture reads: TYPE II-G LIGHTING FIXTURE (UL logo shown) HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, BENJAMIN ELEC MFG. CO. DES PLAINES, ILL. U.S.A.
Like all of our vintage industrial fixtures, this is the "Real McCoy," an antique refurbished with great care (as described below in greater detail) to work safely and dependably for many decades to come. Three feet of new wiring was added to give you flexibility in how far it hangs from your ceiling. You can easily swap out its current 6" down pipe with a 1/2" galvanized iron pipe of any length available at any hardware store.  The medium-base (E26) socket accepts any regular, household bulb (incandescent, CFL, or LED). If purchasing an LED bulb, make sure it's rated for use in an enclosed fixture (the packaging will say so). We equip each socket with an extender to bring the bulb lower into the globe. In the photo we outfitted the light with a long-neck bulb (not included, but commonly available in stores and online).
For a bit of interesting information on this fixture, check out the last photo showing a page from our 1943 Benjamin catalog showing this fixture.
In another listing we show this same fixture with green porcelain on the top side of the shade. Go to our store to check out all of our incredible, fully restored, vintage industrial lighting fixtures. You simply won't find better quality at a better price.

Buy with confidence knowing that all of our vintage industrial light fixtures are:
    *Refurbished to the highest standards.
We carefully disassemble each fixture down to the smallest screw, then refurbish each part. For example, all electrical contact surfaces are cleaned and restored, threaded surfaces are "chased" with taps and dies, and lubricants applied sparingly where needed. We keep the fixtures fully original, only replacing parts when corrosion, functionality, or safety concerns dictate a new part, such as a new stainless steel screw in place of an old rusted one, or a new gasket in place of an old asbestos one.
*Restored and preserved to retain their natural and intrinsic vintage look.
We don't "wring the romance" from fixtures by excessively removing all traces of patina. Instead, metal surfaces are cleaned lightly but completely while preserving the natural patina gained over decades. The parts are then treated to retain the patina and prevent future corrosion.
*Tested and guaranteed to work perfectly.
Before any fixture leaves our workshop it is tested to ensure it works properly. Please check our flawless feedback.
*Packaged extremely well for safe arrival and shipped within 24 hours.
We've shipped vintage light fixtures all over the world with no damage incidents. That's because we use plenty of quality packing materials, and know through years of experience how to pack. Our packing practices meet or exceed the standards established by FedEx, UPS, and USPS.
